Llamas

We have four Llamas which are all gelded males and range between 4 and 6 years old. Their names are from the front "Silverado","Wind Dancer" (Winny) "Sun Dancer" (Sunny) and "Hocus Pocus".

Llamas like to have their own personal space, about a metre, so unless they know you well will not let you touch them when they are in an open paddock. It is a myth that Llamas spit at people intentionally although they do spit at each other when another Llama annoys them especially around food.
Our boys are very friendly and will approach you by the gate and if you are lucky (and female) Windancer (Winny) who is the all white one may kiss you on the nose.
Once they are haltered and tied up they will let you groom and touch them on the neck and body.
Most Llamas do not like their heads and ears touched and the most insulting thing you can do to them is touch their bottoms and tails!!



They love being taken for a walk and are trained to carry a pack to go trekking. This photo is taken on Bethells Beach on the west coast of Auckland.
